Pennichuck Unifies Learning, Performance & Compensation with Cornerstone
Pennichuck Corporation provides water services to more than 110,000 residents throughout southern and central New Hampshire. Like many growing organizations, Pennichuck found itself managing critical talent management functions across multiple systems that were never designed to work together. Learning lived in one platform, performance management in another, and compensation planning often relied on spreadsheets and manual processes. While each solution served a purpose, the overall experience created additional work for administrators and limited visibility across the employee lifecycle.
Recognizing the need for a more connected approach, Pennichuck decided to modernize its talent management environment by moving to Cornerstone. To help navigate the transition, the organization partnered with eSkillz to consolidate Learning, Performance, and Compensation into a single system that would support both employees and administrators for years to come.

Client challenge
For Pennichuck, the challenge wasn’t simply implementing new technology. The organization needed to rethink how talent management processes worked together.
Learning activities were managed separately from performance and compensation programs, making it difficult to create a seamless employee experience. Administrators spent valuable time working across systems, manually maintaining data, and managing processes that weren’t connected. Compensation planning relied heavily on spreadsheets, while employee development information was stored elsewhere, limiting visibility and creating unnecessary administrative effort.
At the same time, Pennichuck wanted to preserve years of training history and learning content that existed in legacy systems. The move to Cornerstone required not only implementing new functionality, but also carefully migrating historical transcript records, learning objects, and employee data without disrupting ongoing operations.
The organization needed a partner that could guide both the technical and strategic sides of the project while ensuring the transition remained focused on business outcomes rather than technology alone.
eSkillz Solution
eSkillz worked closely with Pennichuck to build a unified Cornerstone environment that would serve as the organization’s central hub for employee development, performance management, and compensation planning. Rather than approaching the project as a simple system replacement, the team focused on creating a connected talent management experience.
The project included implementing Cornerstone Learning, Performance, and Compensation while migrating data from SumTotal and emPerform. To support ongoing employee data management, eSkillz worked with Pennichuck’s Proliant HRIS to establish an automated process that generated employee data files using Python and securely delivered them through an FTP process for synchronization with Cornerstone. eSkillz also configured Single Sign-On and enabled Microsoft Teams virtual instructor-led training functionality. Throughout the engagement, eSkillz provided project management, implementation guidance, and best-practice recommendations to help ensure long-term success.
Equally important was helping Pennichuck navigate the organizational changes that come with consolidating multiple processes into a single platform. By working collaboratively with stakeholders and maintaining a clear focus on business objectives, the team was able to create a solution that supported both operational efficiency and employee experience.
Results
Today, Pennichuck manages Learning, Performance, and Compensation within a single integrated platform. What was once a collection of disconnected systems and manual processes has become a more streamlined and cohesive talent management environment.
Administrators now have greater visibility into employee development and performance activities, while compensation planning benefits from automation and system-generated compensation statements. Performance goals, reviews, learning activities, and compensation processes are no longer isolated functions but part of a connected employee experience.
By reducing reliance on spreadsheets and manual processes, Pennichuck has positioned itself to operate more efficiently while providing employees with a more modern and integrated experience. The result is a talent management platform that supports the organization’s growth today while providing a foundation for future workforce development initiatives.
