UMMS faced a critical challenge: keeping training and competency data aligned across two disconnected systems without relying on time-consuming, error-prone manual processes.

​UMMS needed a dependable way to keep critical staff competency and training data aligned across two separate systems: Kahuna for competencies and Cornerstone for learning management. This data gap created a manual, time-intensive process for their administrators. To keep both systems current, LMS admins had to export course and completion data from Cornerstone, reformat it, upload it into Kahuna, and then reconcile course completions between both systems. Every step was manual and repeated weekly – costing time, introducing potential for error, and increasing risk during audits.

In healthcare, that’s more than an administrative inconvenience. A missed or misrecorded training completion could lead to compliance violations or, more critically, compromise patient safety. With no native integration between Kahuna and Cornerstone, UMMS needed a smart, sustainable solution to connect these platforms, and fast. The goal was to remove the burden of manual work while ensuring that both systems could reflect real-time, accurate data without the need for ongoing IT support or custom development.

The new Kahuna eZ·App by eSKillz was created to focus on supporting a one-way, field-mapped integration that pushed all Kahuna-flagged courses from Cornerstone to Kahuna on a daily schedule. Course completions were synced every six hours, keeping both systems consistently aligned with minimal lag. We worked closely with UMMS to implement a flexible, admin-controlled flag system; allowing the admins to manage which courses are included in the sync using a simple custom field in Cornerstone.

With the Kahuna eZ·App in place, UMMS eliminated manual syncing, reduced compliance risk, and gave their admin team back some time, freeing them to focus on strategic priorities instead of repetitive tasks.

UMMS successfully launched their new integration on schedule. The one-way sync now runs reliably in the background, removing the need for LMS administrators to manually export, import, and reconcile training and competency data across systems each week. This change not only saved hours of administrative effort but also dramatically reduced the risk of data entry errors and compliance gaps.

With the systems now automatically aligned, UMMS can trust that training completions are accurately recorded and reflected in Kahuna; helping maintain audit readiness and supporting patient safety across their network.
