eSkillz rose to the occasion, crafting two highly interactive and engaging online training courses tailored for Department of Commerce personnel, private sector stakeholders, industry leaders, and supply chain managers. These courses provided a comprehensive understanding of the signs, symptoms, and best practices to identify, address, and prevent the possible use of forced labor in supply chains, leveraging a story-based approach replete with animated characters as narrators and real-life scenarios illustrating the effect of forced labor on ordinary people across the globe.
From the training introduction:
Human trafficking is a modern-day issue that is on the rise. Every year, men, women, and children are exploited around the world, including here in the United States. Trafficking of humans occurs everywhere – across neighborhoods, in cities and even in rural areas. This is a highly profitable crime and a violation of basic human rights.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that 24.9 million people are subjected to human trafficking. Of these, 81% are held in labor trafficking while 19% are held in sex trafficking.
Human trafficking is a global epidemic. To combat this epidemic, the Biden-Harris Administration, in 2021, released an updated National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking with a focus on ending all forms of human trafficking, including forced labor in global supply chains. This training will help you identify and respond to human trafficking abuses, as everyone, including businesses and companies, can play a part in ending human trafficking.
Results
By equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to combat human trafficking and forced labor, these courses serve as a beacon of awareness and empowerment. As more individuals are educated on the insidious nature of these crimes, the collective ability to identify, address, and prevent them is significantly bolstered.
The training’s success was widely celebrated, with “Introduction to Human Trafficking” earning the bureau’s top honor: the prestigious ITA-GM “Bronze Medal”, which recognizes extraordinary achievements in support of ITA’s mission. This award is a testament to eSkillz and ITA-GM’s successful collaborative effort, eSkillz’s expertise, and the critical importance of widespread education and action in combating global injustices.
The Department of Commerce anticipates that nearly 1.2 million American workers will have had access to this free public training resource over the coming two years. As a further result of the delivery of the Department’s public facing Human Trafficking and Forced Labor courses, the US Chamber of Commerce anticipates that there will be a 3% increase in the number of human trafficking and forced labor violation reports identified by US companies.
